Century Book Club

Meadowvale Elementary Century Book Club

All Meadowvale Elementary students are invited to become members of the Century Book Club. As children read more, they become better readers. One of the best ways to read more is to cultivate reading as a habit. To encourage your child to make reading a regular activity, we suggest they read as many nights as possible. Students in K - 2 should read 20 minutes or more per night, and students in grades 3 -5 should read 30 minutes or more per night.

It is very important that you, as the parent or guardian, encourage and monitor their reading. Students should read grade-appropriate materials. Those in kindergarten and first grade who are not yet reading need someone to read to them, whether it’s you, an older sibling, grandparents, or other caregivers. The ultimate goal is for each student to read 100 nights or more during the 2024-2025 school year.  Links to replacement forms are listed below.

Recognition - A student will receive the following:

25 nights of reading - Silver reading certificate

50 nights of reading - Gold reading certificate and a bookmark

75 nights of reading - Diamond Reading certificate and a “Smencil”

100 nights of reading - Century Reading certificate and a T-shirt

100 + nights of reading - Recognition at the Spring Awards ceremony

How does the program work?

Students are given the 25-night reading form during their first visit to the Media Center in the fall. The forms can also be found linked above.  For every 20 or 30 minutes of reading, the title of one book should be recorded on ONE LINE of the form. It’s great if they read for more than 20 or 30 minutes, but still, only ONE LINE should be filled out per night.  Students may backdate their first form to September 1, 2024, if they know they have read on those days.

Fill in the student’s first and last name, teacher, and grade.  Parents should sign each form when it is completed and circle the desired T-shirt size on the 100-night form.

Return the completed form to the classroom teacher.

The teacher will initial the completed form and then the student should bring the completed form to the Media Center and exchange it for the form for the next level.

What books DO NOT qualify?

Textbooks that are used within your child’s classroom
Books below the child’s reading level
